Bike  group info

The bike rides are on most Saturdays (weather dependant) starting at 8.30am.  They are mainly road rides with some mountain bike fun rides.  Beginner or experienced, fit or not so fit you are welcome to join us.  Road bikes, all terrain or Mountain bikes welcome. Our objective is to get women riding, gain confidence and learn about bikes.

The group rides do not include technique or bike handling skills as there is no charge for these rides, it is an opportunity to get on your bike, meet others and have company while ticking off the distance.  The bonus is fun and coffee and food after the ride!

We are very safety conscious and acknowledge that there are dangers in riding a bike on the road but as a group we take full care to obey all road rules, we never ride through traffic lights or stop signs and only ride 2 abreast when the road is wide enough.  The more experienced in our group will offer any safety advice and make sure that you enjoy your ride.

Details of the rides will be posted on the Barb Millar Training Facebook page each Friday.  Changes or cancellations due to weather will be posted on Saturday morning.

If you have any questions contact me by email, text or phone on 027 271 9721

We aim to have 3 groups each week - this depends on the day depending on numbers and weather.
To get an idea of what group you may fit into this is a general description
(please note this is only a guide as we will all encourage and support you in the group.  No one will ever be left behind on a ride)

Long distance group  This group has experience in road riding and a good level of fitness. Their flat riding speed would be around 26-28kph (weather dependant) and most are training to take part in triathlons or biking events with longer distances.

At the beginning of season the distance will be around 40km and will expand depending on potential events as the weeks go by.

Medium distance group  This group has some experience and a reasonable level of fitness.  They are working on strength, skills and speed.  Distance is around 25 - 30kms, speed (not into a head wind!) would be around 23-25kmph.

Beginners group which depending on who is there could ride between 10-20km.  Speed would depend on the day and could be anywhere from 15-25kmph depending on the tail wind or head wind.
